The MacDill AFB community is seeking a volunteer director for the Retiree Activities Office (RAO), the volunteer-based organization that supports retirees, active-duty members, and spouses on MacDill AFB and the local area.

Col. Benjamin Jonsson, 6th Airlift Wing commander, said the community needs an energetic, retired or veteran officer or senior noncommissioned officer of any service branch to be the next director.

“Part of why the Team MacDill community is so successful is because of our wonderful retiree community,” said Jonsson. “Our military retirees are ambassadors and represent our nation well. Now we need someone to represent them as the RAO director. If you have the time and you feel the calling to serve one more time, now is the time to join our team!”

As a liaison between the retiree population and the commander, the RAO helps address issues within the retiree community as well as host an annual Retiree Appreciation Day and income tax return filings.

The RAO office also serves as an information center for space-available travel, Tricare, base services, etc; offering referrals for financial-assistance and pay matters; counseling active-duty Airmen and Guardians nearing retirement; and providing literature on retirement issues.

“We are able to provide the programs we have in place because of the support of our retiree community,” said Jonsson. “We need your support to keep this community thriving.”
