MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The difference between a successful combat or humanitarian mission and mission failure does not lie with just the reservist; it also relies heavily on support from Airmen’s families and civilian employers.
During a ceremony at Laser Spine Institute, Tampa, Fla., May 24, Nick Lancaster, director of provider relations at LSI, was recognized for going above and beyond, receiving the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award.
“As a Reservist coming off of long-term orders, Nick and LSI have gone above and beyond, placing me in a position that balances both my Reserve commitment and my family needs along with the requirements of LSI,” said Staff Sgt. Adam Borgman, 927th Air Refueling Wing. “LSI is truly a patriotic company to work for.”
The ESGR Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Airmen through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
“Adam brings with him a unique skill set,” Lancaster said. “Not only is he a self-starter, he is a highly motivated individual that does not need micro-managing. From day one, when given a task, I know Adam will not only meet expectations but also far exceed them. I credit that to his military bearing and discipline.”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, LSI Chief Executive Officer Roger Cary signed a statement of support for the Guard and Reserve before a crowd of LSI employees, many of whom have served in the past or continue to serve in the Guard or Reserve.
“As you know, LSI is already committed to excellence in providing the best medical care to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, and today allows us to take that responsibility a step further,” said Cary. “Our organization is so excited to partner with ESGR, and show our commitment to our service members by signing a statement of support.”
The Statement of Support Program is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The intent of the program is to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve forces.
The ESGR is a Department of Defense organization established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component service members and their civilian employers.
The ESGR has many awards for supportive employers with a nomination process that can be completed online: http://esgr.mil/Service-Members-Family/Nominate-your-Employer.aspx.
