MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Representatives from various 927th Air Refueling Wing wellness groups were present to launch the new Helping Hands Organization over the March Unit Training Assembly.
Through its partner members in Airmen Family Readiness, Chapel Core, Yellow Ribbon, Key Spouse, and the Director of Phycological Health, the organization seeks to provide proactive and overlapping access to the many services it’s partner members provide.
Helping Hands represents a collaboration between the five wing entities with the primary goal of boosting Airmen morale and personal wellness.
“We want to come together to create opportunities for people to be helped” Said Chaplain (Major) Mark Jurkowski, “we’re putting our hands together to say how can we help the unit, and help the wing meet the needs.”
Helping Hands held its inaugural event with the help of Sonny’s BBQ to promote awareness and access to the numerous services available to the men and women of the 927th. In addition to becoming a regular staple of Airmen wellness, the organization plans on having similar events on a bi-annual basis.
“One of the things that we’re working through is developing those relationships on a team level,” said Chaplin (1st Lieutenant) David Sidnam. “If we as a team can come together, have more meetings, feel more connected with one another, we can then pool our various resources.”
The next Helping Hands event is scheduled for Summer 2018. To get more information about Helping Hands please contact the Director of Psychological Health, Tijuana Odom at tijuana.odom.2@us.af.mil or (813) 828-0016.
