MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (23 October 2018) — A 927 Aeromedical Staging Squadron Airman was recently presented with the John L. Levitow Award.
Senior Airman Ronrico K. Smith, a Biomedical Equipment Technician with the 927 ASTS, received the John L. Levitow Award during the Airman Leadership School Graduation Ceremony on Oct. 19 at MacDill Air Force Base, Fl.
The Levitow Award is the highest award for enlisted Professional Military Education in the Air Force and is presented to the student who demonstrates the most outstanding leadership and scholastic achievement throughout ALS, Non-Commissioned Officer Academy and Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. Selection for the award is based on academic performance and assignment of points by peers and instructors.
“I’m still trying to encompass how great of an award this is,” said Smith. “I feel as if I did something for my unit, and for other Airmen to show them that they are able to achieve this award as well.”
Airmen Leadership School focuses on developing leadership abilities, the profession of arms, and building effective communication. Only one student receives this award in each class and classes can vary in size, depending on base or school. Smith was the top of his class amongst the 31 other Airmen.
"The men and women of the 927th ARW are exceptionally proud of Senior Airmen Ronrico Smith in his accomplishment of being awarded the John L. Levitow Award for ALS Class 18-G at MacDill Air Force Base,” Col. Douglas A. Stouffer, 927th Air Refueling Wing commander. “This recognition is an example of the outstanding caliber of Airmen throughout the Total Force."
