MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The MacDill AFB Retiree Activities Office is offering free federal income tax preparation assistance service beginning Jan. 20, 2020.
Military retirees, spouses and active duty families of all branches of service are eligible for the tax assistance that will be provided at the RAO located in Bldg. 925 between the base Exchange and Commissary.
The RAO will have specially trained volunteers to assist you with tax returns. Electronic filing will be provided and refunds can be expected within approximately two weeks from the date of filing.
If the RAO did not prepare your previous year's tax return, you should bring a copy of the return you filed for that year. The tax assistance program is sponsored by the 6th Air Refueling Wing Staff Judge Advocate office and is operated under the supervision of the RAO.
Tax preparers are trained under the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and are certified by the Internal Revenue Service for performance at a level commensurate with most retirees' incomes.
Appointments for DoD issued ID card holders will be available beginning Jan. 20, 2020. Please call 813-828-0248
or visit their office on or after Jan. 20 to schedule an appointment. Tax preparation will begin on Feb. 3. This service is available on a first-come-first-served basis during their hours of operation, Monday thru Friday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

RAO Needs Volunteers!
RAO volunteers are needed in a variety of skills and positions. If you would like to stay connected to the MacDill community and share your skills and talents, please contact our volunteer coordinator at (813) 828-0248. You will be working with a great team of people in providing support to our active duty military personnel, retirees, widows/widowers and dependents. No experience is necessary; training will be provided.
Brandon Tax Preparation Service ready to help
Tax season is right around the corner and volunteers of the Brandon Tax Preparation Service are ready to help military families.
The office combined has over 100 years of tax prepping service experience. Last year they completed over 650 tax returns and saved military families over $200,000 in tax preparation fees!
Located at the Riverview Hillsborough Community College in Brandon at 6437 Watson Road, Riverview, Florida, they offer free tax services year around to active duty, retirees, spouses and dependents with valid military identification. Their office hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The Brandon Tax Preparation Service is in need of volunteers to continue assisting is saving military family’s money and time. They need volunteers for the positions of greeter, tax preparer and a scheduler. Minimum volunteer time is one day per week during tax season, Feb. 1 thru Apr. 15.
