Last week family members gathered both in person and electronically to watch trainee Christian Lopez enlist in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

"I am very proud of my brother joining the reserves and feel it's a great step for his development as a young man", said U.S. Air Force reservist Tech. Sgt. Joshua Lopez, a medical technician with the 63rd Air Refueling Squadron here at MacDill Air Force Base and Christian's older brother. The brothers have a long and proud line of military history in their family. Aunts, uncles, cousins and even their own father have served in various branches of the U.S. military.

Present for the enlistment were Christian's older brother Joshua, his older sister Amy, and his girlfriend Nycole. Unable to be there in person Lopez's parents, Angel and Mildred Lopez, watched the enlistment live via skype from Caserma Ederle (Camp Ederle) in Vicenza, about 25 miles west of Venice, Italy. " As Christians parents we are very proud of his decision to join the Air Force reserves and wish him well in this new chapter of his life, may God bless him." Angel is a retired Sergeant First Class (E-7) from the U.S. Army where he worked in the communications field, and who now works as a civil servant for the U.S. Air Force and is attached to the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE) out of MacDill.

Trainee Lopez will attend basic military training this summer before attending school to become a medical material supply technician and will serve at the 45th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron here at MacDill. Although serving their nation in separate squadrons, both brothers fall under the 927th Air Refueling Wing.
