Captain William Beauchene assumed command of the 927th Security Forces Squadron during a ceremony here April 14.

The Security Forces Squadron's mission is to utilize physical security, law enforcement and force protection principles to keep the assets of the 927th Air refueling Wing - both its people and equipment - safe. This is a job Beauchene is well suited for, according to his commanding officer, Colonel Rodney Bryan.

"I can say with the utmost confidence Captain Beauchene is the right man at the right time for this job," Bryan said during the ceremony. Bryan is the commander of the 927th Mission Support Group, which oversees the activities of the security forces squadron. "(The 927th SFS) is truly blessed to have a great leader like this to come and take command of the unit."

The official ceremony began with the posting of the colors and a prayer led by the wing chaplain. The 927th SFS' unit guidon then exchanged hands between the 927th MSG Commander Col. Bryan and Beauchene to symbolize the passing of authority to the new commander.

Beauchene comes to the 927th SFS with many years of experience commanding law enforcement units. Prior to his appointment at MacDill, he commanded the 440th SFS at Pope Air Force Base, N.C.

"My previous unit suffered through many of the same things as the 927th did," Beauchene said at the ceremony. "We both went through a base re-alignment and closure where we were relocated, had challenging associate missions, deployed to Iraq and operational readiness exercises."

Beauchene said the security forces have a special place in the Air Force and a very unique mission to perform; one that he takes very seriously.

"Security Forces is the shield of the Air Force ... that means training and readiness. I ask all of you in the 927th SFS to set yourselves to that task with relentless vigor. The future for the 927th SFS is certainly bright."
