Toy for tots Published Dec. 23, 2014 By Airman 1st Class Tori Schultz 6th Air Mobility Wing public affairs MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- MacDill Air Force Base, Florida came together and held a base wide event for the Toy for Tots program and surpassed their initial goal of 2,000 toys by collecting 5,400. "This is MacDill's first base wide toy collection," said Staff Sgt. Michael Perry, 6th Logistics Readiness Squadron equipment accountability supervisor. "We worked with just about every squadron and branch on base." Toys for Tots is a program ran by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. Over 50 collection boxes were distributed and more than 60 active members participated in this year's event. All toys were gathered and transported to the Toys for Tots warehouse. "For most of the children, the toys we collected will be the only toys they have received all year and we made that happen, we made a difference," said Perry. "To almost triple our goal shows that teamwork really works."
