Honorary commanders and civil leaders from Charleston, South Carolina, visited MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, for a base tour Nov. 5, 2014.

The Civic Leader Tour was hosted by the 6th Air Mobility Wing, who coordinated with both the active-duty 628th Air Refueling Wing and the Reserve 315th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston. The 6th AMW also partnered with the 927th ARW to complete the tour for the civic leaders.

Upon their arrival to MacDill, the civic leaders were welcomed by Col. Daniel Tulley, 6th AMW commander, and members of Team MacDill where they received a briefing of the Total Force concept and how Reserve and active-duty forces work hand in hand to accomplish the mission.

"This was a great opportunity to welcome South Carolina civic leaders to learn more about the Air Force, from both active duty and reserve perspectives," said Tulley. "Team MacDill has a phenomenal honorary commander program and civic leaders who are active and engaged in everything we do."

Following the briefing, the visitors from Charleston toured units around MacDill including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Boom Operator Weapons System Training simulator, a KC-135 Stratotanker static display, and the Joint Communications Support Element parachute riggers.

The civic leaders also enjoyed lunch at the Surf's Edge club where Brig. Gen. James Slife, U.S. Central Command deputy director of strategy, plans and policy, gave a briefing and answered questions from those in attendance.

In addition to the civic leaders from Charleston, leaders of Joint Base Charleston also participated in the flight and tour of MacDill.

"This was an outstanding opportunity for our civic leaders as well as Joint Base Charleston's Total Force leadership to engage and network," said Col. Scott Sauter, 315th Airlift Wing interim commander. "I heard several folks remark about how impressed they were with the people, tours, and facilities at MacDill. Top to bottom, this was a great event!"
