MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Tax season is around the corner and members of MacDill Air Force Base, Florida will hopefully be able to receive a nice amount of cash back from all their hard work this year.

MacDill offers two locations for active duty, retirees, spouses, and dependents to get their taxes done for free. All that is needed is proof of a valid military identification card.

The Retiree Activities Office (RAO)

The RAO, located on base between the commissary and the Base Exchange, is open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. On Fridays, the office only assist active duty service members with their tax returns. The office is closed on holidays and will be available for scheduling by phone beginning on January 15. Appointments and walk-ins will start on January 29. Please contact the office at (813) 828-0248 to schedule an appointment.

Hillsborough Community College (HCC)

The HCC tax center, located at 6437 Watson Road in Riverview, Florida 33578, is open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and Saturday. They are also closed on holidays, but most notably during the week of their Spring break. Saturdays will be reserved for appointments only, but walk-ins are welcome on the other days. Hillsborough Community College will start scheduling January 15. Please contact them at (813) 546-6217.

In addition to the normal W-2, 1099, and other financial forms, clients will need to bring their 1095-C Affordable Care Act paperwork. Personnel should receive this paperwork from Defense Finance Accounting Service, or it can be downloaded from the same site containing the income forms.

It is important to note that these tax service providers will not include state income or sale of rental property preparation.

The HCC tax center is currently seeking volunteers for the 2018 tax season. No tax experience is required. They are seeking multiple greeters and a scheduler. The greeters will meet the clients, check them in, and keep the order for the reviews. The schedulers will need home computer access with Excel and email. The schedulers will return phone calls, schedule clients, and send out email confirmations. The hours are flexible and any days of participation are welcomed. If interested, please contact retired Col. Pete Ryner at (813) 545-5807 or email him at pryner@verizon.net.
