Danger In The Sky
Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii -- After an in-flight emergency was declared, servicemembers aboard the KC-135 worked to make sure the civilian passengers were taken care of. Here, Maj. Trey Hall, a pilot with the 927th Air Refueling Wing speaks with Master Sgt. John Mercer, a boom operator with the same unit about the safety of the civilians aboard. The emergency was declared after the pilots noticed smoke and fumes in the cockpit at 22,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. (Official U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Shawn Rhodes)
