MacDill recognizes ‘forgotten’ service members of years past
The 6th Civil Engineer Squadron prepares the site of the final marker near the once segregated facilities of the Aviation Engineers outside the MacDill Air Force Base Exchange Mall at MacDill AFB, Florida, June 26, 2022. The heritage marker formally recognizes the service of thousands of African Americans who served in engineer aviation battalions during World War II. The efforts of these battalions that trained at MacDill, expedited the end of the conflict and helped ensure an Allied victory. (U.S. Air Force photo by Master Sgt. Rickey Gray)
