    As the Tokyo Olympics kick off this week, one youth is getting ready to represent MacDill Air Force Base at the Junior Olympics in Northern Florida starting early next week. Benjamin Hiestand, a 6th grader from Tinker K-8 School, is competing in the discus throw event at the Junior Olympics in Jacksonville, Florida, July 26 through Aug. 1, 2021.

    Miami, Florida, first responders faced a nightmare scenario on June 24, 2021 when the Champlain Towers South building collapsed suddenly, trapping many residents and leading to a desperate search for survivors and casualties. Efforts spanned multiple agencies and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency. U.S. Air Force Capt. Eli Estrin, a Rabbi and chaplain assigned to MacDill Air Force Base, Florida’s Readiness Integration Organization Detachment 5 put his own skills as a military chaplain to work aiding rescuers and victims.

  • MacDill CDC releases Kinderspot app

    In an effort to aid military service members in finding available childcare or day care service at MacDill’s Child Development Center, a mobile app called Kinderspot, developed by Oddball, will be available to families of Team MacDill beginning July 12, 2021. Kinderspot is a mobile app designed to streamline the process of temporarily renting out a child’s spot to families who need short-term child care, whether because they are going on vacation or are going on a TDY for the next 2 months.
  • HURCON All Clear status issued at MacDill

    As of 12 p.m. July 7, 2021, MacDill Air Force Base has declared Hurricane Condition (HURCON) All Clear status. MacDill AFB will be opening for routine access today starting at 12 p.m. and will resume full operations tomorrow, July 8. Please contact your unit leadership for any questions.
  • MacDill upgrades to HURCON 2

    As of 10 a.m. July 6, 2021, the Installation Commander has declared Hurricane Condition (HURCON) 2 for MacDill AFB. Destructive winds are ANTICIPATED within 24 hours. Take appropriate preparation actions. Evacuation of the installation is not directed at this time.
  • Base commander declares HURCON 4; evacs aircraft

    Due to Tropical Storm Elsa, KC-135s from the 6th Air Refueling Wing on MacDill AFB are evacuating to McConnell AFB, Kansas. MacDill aircraft are evacuating as a precaution due to the projected winds. The aircraft will return to MacDill AFB when conditions return to normal. In addition, base commander had declared HURCON 4 and has directed limited base access and “mission essential personnel only” on Tuesday, July 6.
  • Air Force releases cardio and strength fitness assessment alternatives, new online capabilities

    The Air Force will provide Airmen five physical fitness assessment alternatives—three for the cardio portion and sit-up components and two for the push-up component of the physical fitness assessment beginning in early 2022.
