Florida burrowing owl released on MacDill
A Florida burrowing owl is banded for tracking and identification purposes at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, April 8, 2022. This bird was transported from a wildlife rehabilitation center to MacDill because the base is home to the only known remaining colonies of burrowing owls in the Tampa Bay area. Florida burrowing owls, which are a state-designated threatened species, have black, brown, and white coloring which helps them stay camouflaged on the ground where they spend most of their time.
